Duck-billed dinosaurs were the wildebeest of the era, crossing dangerous swamps, and migrating thousands of miles with their offspring to get to their destination.

Think any of them (except the dominant males) got to make any decisions? Did they get to live with prestige and enjoy the position of trusted advisor?

Yeah, not so much.

They were just following the herd, whether they liked it or not.

Did you go into business to be a follower or your clients’ IT leader?

Do you enjoy doing what you’re told by your client who isn’t trusting you to lead their technology?

  • No prestige.

  • No financial gain.

  • Minimal standardization.

  • Terrible after-the-sale support from Best Buy or Amazon.

Back when I started out, we had to do some of that. Later, when we perfected our systems and trusted our vendors, we converted every single one of our clients to the Tricera purchasing model.

You can lead and prosper, or follow and have mud kicked in your face.

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t really like it when my clients micromanaged decisions I should have been making.
